David "G-Pop" Powell Doster

David “G-Pop” Powell Doster {AKA DadDavid, Dad, Pops, Grandpa, G-Popper} passed in Orlando on June 7, 2018 in Orlando, FL at the age of 64. David is survived by his Wife, Marlene Garcia Doster; Children, Tammy Polk Velez, Shannon Doster Ansley, David Doster II, Stephanie Doster; Son-in-laws, Juan Velez and David Ryan Ansley; Daughter-in-law, Rebecca Jacob; Siblings, Diane Thorton, Jimbo Doster, Debby Garner, Dori Gilbert; Sister-in-law, Patricia Garcia Wieland ; Grandchildren, Marlena, Alyssa, Mia, Julian, Amelia, Isla, RaeLyn. David is preceded in death by his parents, James “Bo” Barr Doster and Lolee Elizabeth Melvin Doster of New Smyrna Beach, as well as Sister-in-laws, Terri Garcia Bryant and Gertrude “Chickie” Garcia Kane of Orlando. David was born on November 15, 1953 (a true Scorpio, at that) in Pensacola, FL to James and Lolee Doster. He graduated from Boone High School in 1972 and continued on to Sante Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL. David worked for the City Of Orlando in Recreational Aquatics for over 25 years and was a notable shareholder for Surewater Technologies, Inc.’s patented invention “The Solution”. He married Marlene Garcia, the love of his life in 1979. David’s family was his life, and he was extremely proud of the family that he came from as well as the family that he and Marlene had created together. While upbringing their children, they spent majority of their weekends at the beach, soaking up the sunshine and splashing in the waves. Their children grew up with a love for all things water and nature, including frequent trips to Rock Springs and Devils Den. David had even earned his Deep Diver Certification. He had the greenest of thumbs and loved hanging out in his backyard tropical oasis, as well as his blossoming garden. To all that visited, he was always so proud to share the fruits of his labor - such as tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers. He was a one-of-a-kind rockstar who absolutely loved jamming to music of all genres, songwriting, and going to concerts at Venues, big and small- mainstream and grassroots local. David enjoyed frequenting art festivals, gem shows, and treasured collecting old coins found from the Shipwrecks off of Florida. He was a naturally artistic and creative soul. He was always working on some kind of art project, dabbling in pottery, jewelry-making, mosaics, and painting in all mediums. He truly believed there was nothing that a can of a spray paint (and stencils that he found in nature, ie. palm fronds, seashells, etc.) couldn’t jazz up. David was a brilliant man, who was passionate about reading. He was someone that you could go to and ask just about anything.. from history, LOVE, politics, sports, celebrities... all the way to current events - he was always hip to what was going on, and kept his finger right on the pulse of life. David will always be remembered for his unique style, witty humor, and fun-loving ways. Lastly, and one of the most significant things to note about David is that he was a FLORIDA GATOR through and through. His love grew for the team, after being introduced to the sport at a young age by his father. He took his team very seriously- never missing a game, and he absolutely bled orange and blue for all of his days! #itsgreattobeafloridagator. A Sunset Celebration Of Life is scheduled for Thursday, July 12, at 6:30pm at the Bethune Beachfront Park in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Reception will immediately follow at 403 Florida Avenue, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169. All are welcome to attend and celebrate David’s life.
