As usual she’s right! There’s no way to change losing her on Jan 1, 2014. The best we can do is remember her, love each other and find our own way to work through the loss so we can move ahead. Easy words, but not as easy to do when Rusty was the matriarch, cornerstone and glue that kept this family together. Born in Miami July 23rd, 1949 to Mary Lou Bauer and Herman Price, she was the oldest of six. From the very beginning she took to her matriarch role quickly by mothering her brothers and sisters - a trait that has lasted her entire life. For Rusty, she would say her life truly began when she met and married the love of her life Douglass Jordan Brantley. They were married on Leap Day Feb 29th, 1972. By only having an anniversary every four years, they would always keep their love young and fresh. It worked! In 2012 they celebrated their 10th anniversary after actually being married for 40 years. Does it get any cooler than that? Sadly, they already knew they would not make it to their next anniversary. In the early years along with their only son Sean Douglass Brantley, the three travelled the country finding adventure and solace in the nature around them. Hiking, swimming, canoeing, camping, fishing and hunting were all a regular way of life for them. After years of adventure, the tight-knit, loving little family settled in Orlando, FL. Sean graduated, joined the Navy, married Sandy and started a family. Then came the greatest joy of her life… two grandkids (Douglass and Samantha)! They changed Rusty’s world! Enveloped in the lives of her grandchildren, she was often found researching their latest interest or planning the next visit with them. But, her entrepreneurial spirit would not be stifled. She had worked her way up the ladder in a small real estate company that managed commercial rental space. She earned a Vice Presidency in Faison (a company with presence nationwide). Rusty eventually ventured out on her own and Central Florida Commercial Management Company was born. For the past 14 years, Rusty has been at the helm of her thriving company. Dedicated to her clients, Rusty saw to every detail. Commercial Management was more than just a company to Rusty it was a family. Rusty’s right-hand in business, Lou Wingate was her closest friend and business confidant for over 30 years. Also joining the CM family was her youngest brother Bill DeAquinos. And of course, Rusty’s right-hand man in life, Doug was always the man behind the scenes. Doug has been the quiet strength who worked all the legal aspects and financials while supporting Rusty’s endeavors. The Commercial Management family was her second family. It was a part of her life she kept to herself, but loved all the same. Even with such success in the corporate world, Rusty’s life remained wrapped up in her family. Now teenagers, she is adored by her grandchildren… In a text from Doug (who she called Dugger) just days before her passing he said “Grandma… You are truly the best grandmother I could’ve asked for! You have taught me so much. I am grateful for every second we’ve had together. You are the strongest woman I know. I’m thankful for all the situations and conversations we’ve shared about faith. Be at peace. I love you.” Rusty leaves a huge hole that will never be filled. She also leaves a legacy. A legacy of a good work ethic, strength in adversity, support for those you love, and of course a legacy of love. She leaves that legacy in the lives of all she held dear. But, she’s left her fingerprint on the lives of every person she knew. But, find truth in some of her favorite words “it is what it is.” Remember her, love each other and find your own way to work through the loss so you can move ahead.
