Frances Spears

Mary Frances Blue Spears, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. Born in Alexander City, Alabama to John Blue and Mary Lennard Smith Blue, Frances grew up on the family farm in Nixburg, Alabama. When Frances was ten years old, her family moved to Sylacauga, Alabama where she was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Sylacauga High School and attended Auburn University where she met her husband, Jack Spears. They married after graduation and lived in Charlotte, Boston and Birmingham before settling in Orlando in 1962. An elder and longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Orlando, Frances served for many years on the flower committee creating floral arrangements for Sunday services and decorating the sanctuary for holidays and other special occasions. She met many of her lifelong friends at church in the Berean Sunday School class, attending Wednesday night suppers, helping organize special events such as Round Table and serving as an usher. She was also involved in a church sponsored Small Group for over forty years. Frances enjoyed identifying and learning about wildflowers and native plants while hiking in North Carolina and Florida. She belonged to the Tarflower Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society and the Orlando Garden Club. Frances was interested in her Scottish heritage, family genealogy and reconnecting with relatives at family reunions. She also adored animals, especially cats, and was usually feeding at least one old stray who somehow knew she was accepting applications. Affectionately known as Beep or BeeBee, Frances is survived by her son Gordon Spears, her daughter Libbie Jordan (Mark), her grandchildren Walker Jordan (Mackenzie), Caroline Jordan Biggs (Blake), Ginny Blue Jordan and Callie Spears, as well as her great-grandchildren Chandler Jordan, Palmer Blue Jordan and Baker Biggs. She is also survived by her older brother John Lauchlin Blue (Faye) of Montgomery, Alabama. A memorial service will be held at A Community Funeral Home and Sunset Cremations in Orlando where Frances’ family and friends will gather to celebrate her life on Sunday, December 14th at 3:00pm.
