Gene R. Stang

Gene R. Stang, 73, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on April 5, 2024. He was born on July 12, 1950, and was raised in National Park, New Jersey. Gene attended Woodbury High School before enlisting with the US Marine Corps. LCpl Gene Stang is a Vietnam War Combat Veteran, who proudly served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam war from 1969 to 1971, with a Specialty title of Machine Gunner. His military decorations include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/1*, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, Gallantry Cross Medal Color with Palm, Vietnam Civil Actions Medal and Rifle Marksman Badge. His dedication and commitment during his military service exemplified his strong character and loyalty. Gene moved to Vero Beach and pursued a career as the Facilities Director at Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute. His leadership and expertise were invaluable to the organization, leaving a lasting impact on his colleagues and the community. Beyond his professional life, he found joy in his hobbies as an avid golfer and fisherman. Gene was preceded in death by his father, Walter R. Stang, his mother, Anna Elizabeth Stang, nee Bogdovich, his daughter, April Mae Stang, his son Michael McGuire, his grandson Drue McGuire and his younger brothers, James R. (Jimmy) Stang and Theodore R. (Teddy) Stang. Gene is survived by his daughters, Missy (& Enrique Palasol) and Susan (& Steve Long). He is also survived by his grandchildren Garrett Evans, Owen Long, Zachary, Cody, and Blake McGuire; great-grandchildren, Elenor Maeve Evans, Milo McGuire, Leonidas, Maximus and Perseus McGuire. Gene is also survived by his siblings, Gail Patricia (Pat) Jones, Walter R. (Bud) and John R. (Jack) Stang. Gene will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of service, hard work, and love for the outdoors will be remembered fondly by those whose lives he touched. Interment will be held on June 14, 2024, at 11:00 at the BG William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Provinceline Road, Wrightstown, NJ 08562, with a repast to follow at 12:30 for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, 3033 Wilson Blvd, Ste 300, Arlington, VA 22201.
