George E. Bashour

George Emil Bashour On January 23rd, 2026, the kind and inspirational life of George Emil Bashour came to a peaceful ending. George was 93 years old and had suffered a stroke just three days earlier. George is predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Genevieve (Joseph) Bashour, who passed away in 2022. He is the son of the late Jacob and Eugenie (Khoury) Bashour. George is also predeceased by his only sibling, his younger brother, Joseph Eugene Bashour. George leaves behind his son, Mark Bashour of Northborough, Massachusetts, his daughter, Eugenie Roy of Beverly, Massachusetts, and his daughter Christina and son-in -law, Paul Rexford of Orlando, Florida who lived close to George in his final years. George is survived by two granddaughters, Genevieve and Lillian Rexford, and four grandsons, Peter and Michael Roy, and Christopher and Derick Rexford. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Joyce Bashour of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, and sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Jurgen Strasser of Lafayette, California, and a large extended family. George was born on April 7th, 1932, in New London, Connecticut and moved to Detroit, Michigan when he was two years old. Growing up, George was a dedicated student and would work long hours in his parents’ grocery store. Naturally athletic, he participated in several sports and was a three-sport letterman. Living in Detroit, he attended many Detroit Tiger baseball games. Being an exceptional baseball player himself, he was invited to try out for the Tigers as a player. Feeling he did not love baseball enough to make it his career, he decided to enroll in college instead. George would attend the University of Detroit where he majored in electrical engineering. Before graduating, he served in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After the war, it was love at first sight when George met Genevieve. They were married six months later and moved to Huntsville, Alabama where George accepted an engineering job with the Raytheon Corporation. A year later, still working for Raytheon, they decided to move to Northborough, Massachusetts. This is where they would raise their three children. While working full-time at Raytheon, George managed to earn a business degree from Northeastern University in 1966, and a law degree from the New England School of Law in 1972. George was a dedicated family man who always put his family first. He was always an avid supporter and attendee of his three children’s sporting and extracurricular activities and events. As an engineer, he wrote many manuals for companies like Raytheon and designed manufacturing facilities and warehouses for Digital Equipment Corporation domestically and overseas. He performed various other engineering roles for companies such as Sylvania, General Radio, Wang, and Prime Computer. He was also a features editor for Modern Material Handling Magazine. George was a jack of all trades and a man with many creative talents. He was a skilled mechanic, carpenter and writer. He designed and built a beautiful vacation home with Genevieve in Blue Hill, Maine. In their retirement years as snowbirds, George and Genevieve would live between Maine and New Smyrna beach, Florida where George would spend a great deal of time writing poetry, essays, and a novel. George was a remarkable and devout man who was humble in his many accomplishments. He is loved by all who had the privilege to know him. His entire family, friends and acquaintances will miss him very much.
