Mr. Giombattista Barreca

A Memorial honoring the life of Giombattista Barreca Sr., 91 years old, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 18th from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm at A Community Funeral Home and Sunset Cremations 910 W.Michigan Street in Orlando, Florida. 32805 Mr. Barreca was born on February 15th, 1923 in Comiso, Ragussa Province in Sicilia, Italy, his mother being Biagia Barone and his father Antonino Barreca, and was called home to his Creator on Saturday, November 15th, 2014. He had an only sister Stella Barreca-Puglisi. He died very peacefully in his room at home surrounded by the love and prayers of his family who loved him very deeply. Mr. Barreca was a Lifelong Catholic dedicated to Virgin Mary, "La Madonna" as he said. He was in the military since a very young age serving his country, Italy during World War II. He was a POW held by the Germans and even during that time he helped many of his patriots. After that period, he moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina where he met the love of his life, Cipriana (Chela) Benitez with whom he had an only son Antonio Pablo Barreca. In 1962, "el tano" moved to Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York where he lived for 49 years until he moved with his family to Orlando in December of 2011. Titto as everybody knew him was a great son, a great husband, a great dad, a great uncle, a great grandfather, a great cousin, and a great friend. He loved opera, to the point that he memorized the librettos, his eyes would well with tears recounting the tragic story of "La Traviatta" and the heroine Violetta. He was a very wise, humble, gentle, charming and sensitive gentleman. He was extremely generous, always thinking of others first. He loved to read, he was very educated and had a great memory. His stories and wisdom were a gift for everyone. He exhibited a profound love for his family and always wanted the best for them. He loved his only son Antonio with all his heart. For him, he always said Antonio was a gift from Heaven as well as his grandchildren. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his "nipotino" Giombattista (Gio) 7 years old and "nipote" Marcella (Chela) 5 years old whom always endearingly called him Nonno, he was a very playful, sweet and loving grandfather. His daughter in law loved him very much and will be forever thankful to him for all his love and kindness since the time they met and through all the 9 years that they lived together. The sparkle in his eyes and his beautiful smile always made you feel welcome in his presence. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His very beautiful soul has gone to Heaven and now is an angel with our Lord and Eternal Father and his beloved wife Chela. Nonno and Nonna now live together eternally. Giombattista Barreca Sr. will be forever an inspiration, a guide and an example for his family and friends because of his love and dedication. He will always live in their hearts. The light in his eyes and soul live on through his son and his grandchildren. Survivors include his son Antonio Pablo Barreca, his daughter in law Carmen Elvira Barreca-Zarcos, his grandchildren Giombattista Barreca Jr (Giom) and Marcella del Carmen Barreca. His niece Nunziatina Puglisi Barreca with her husband "Pipo" Pignataro and his children Fabio Pignataro and Valentina Pignataro and her husband Gaetano Nuzzarello and their wonderful little son Biagio Nuzzarello, from Comiso, Sicily. Cousins and relatives include the Simonelli and Pandullo Family from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The Zarcos, Romano / Parodi-Romano, Santelli-Romano, Hallon-Romano and Durango / Arboleda-Durango family from Guayaquil, Ecuador. The Barone and Bellio family in Brooklyn, New York and Port St. Lucie, Florida. He always remembered you, his people, the countries and all the beautiful memories you shared together. His family is very thankful to the staff of Florida Hospital East and Cornestone Hospice who helped him during the last two months to make the peaceful transition to Heaven from his beloved home. Tenia una unica hermana Stella Barreca-Puglisi. Fallecio con mucha paz en su hogar rodeado del amor y de las oraciones de su familia quienes lo amaban profundamente. Giombattista Barreca Sr. fue catolico dedicado a la Virgen Maria a quien el llamaba carinosamente 'La Madonna". Fue parte de las Fuerzas Armadas desde muy joven sirviendo a su pais Italia durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Fue mantenido prisionero de Guerra por los Alemanes y aun durante este tiempo ayudo a muchos de sus compatriotas. Despues de este periodo, se mudo a Buenos Aires, Argentina donde conocio al amor de su vida, Cipriana (Chela) Benitez con quien procreo su unico hijo Antonio Pablo Barreca. En 1962 "el tano" se mudo a Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, New York donde vivio por 49 anos hasta que se mudo con su familia a Orlando en Diciembre del 2011. Titto como todos lo conocian fue un gran hijo, un gran esposo, un gran padre, un gran tio, un gran abuelo, un gran primo y un gran amigo. Amaba la opera al punto que memorizaba los libretos, sus ojos se llenaban de lagrimas al recordar la tragica historia de "La Traviatta" con su heroina Violetta. Era un hombre muy sabio, humilde, gentil, elegante y sensible. Todo un caballero. Era extremadamente generoso, siempre pensando primero en los otros. Amaba leer, era muy educado y tenia una gran memoria. Sus historias y sabiduria fueron un gran don para quienes lo conocieron. Siempre mostro un profundo amor por su familia y deseaba lo mejor para ellos. Amo a su unico hijo Antonio con toda su alma. Para el, como siempre decia, Antonio fue un regalo del Cielo asi como sus nietos. Amaba pasar tiempo con su familia, especialmente con su "nipotino" Gio de 7 anos y su "nipote" Marcella (Chela) de 5 anos quienes siempre lo llamaban muy carinosamente "Nonno". El era un abuelito muy jugueton, dulce y amoroso. Su nuera lo amaba mucho y estara por siempre agradecida de su amor y de la dulzura con que la acogio desde el momento que se conocieron y a traves de los 9 anos que vivieron juntos. La luz de sus bellos ojos y su hermosa sonrisa siempre te hacian sentir bienvenido en su presencia. Todos lo que lo conocieron lo extranaran profundamente. Su hermosisima alma ha ido al Cielo y ahora es un angel con nuestro Senor y Padre Eterno y con su amadisima esposa Chela. Nonno y nonna viviran juntos eternamente. Giombattista Barreca Sr. sera por siempre una inspiracion, una guia y un ejemplo para su familia y amigos por su amor y dedicacion. Siempre vivira en nuestros corazones. La luz de sus ojos y su alma viviran a traves de su hijo y de sus nietos. Le sobreviven su hijo Antonio Pablo Barreca, su nuera Carmen Elvira Barreca-Zarcos, sus nietos Giombattista Barreca Jr (Gio) and Marcella (Chela) del Carmen Barreca. Su sobrina Nunziatina Puglisi Barreca con su esposo "Pipo" Pignataro y sus hijos Fabio Pignataro and Valentina Pignataro y su esposo Gaetano Nuzzarello y su maravilloso pequeno hijo Biagio Nuzzarello, de Comiso, Sicilia.
