Hugo Reynaldo Alejos

Hugo Reynaldo Alejos Carbajal was born on July 23, 1950, in Lima, Peru, and was the oldest of five siblings. His father was a doctor and his mother passed when he was very young, so he was raised by his aunts. As the oldest child, he took it upon himself to stay connected to his extended family. Hugo studied architecture in college. He came to the U.S. in the early 1980s. Always a hard worker with an incredible work eithic, he was a draftsman in New York City and worked on major commercial spaces, including malls, office buildings and even cruise ships. He was an avid fan of Universitario (also known as "La U," a Peruvian soccer club team), Red Bull New York (also known as "the Metrostars," a Major League Soccer team based in NY/NJ), United States National Team and the Peruvian National Team. He loved going to soccer games and taking his children, instilling in them a lifelong love of the game. He also enjoyed boxing and mixed martial arts. Growing up in Lima near the Pacific Ocean, Hugo loved cooking and eating seafood. His legendary ceviche was what originally won his wife over when they first met in New Jersey in the early 1980s. He loved going to the beach with his family. They'd pack up the station wagon and head to the beach while "Un Verano en Nueva York” played on the radio. He always placed his family ahead of himself. He made sure his children went to good schools and that they excelled academically. Christmases and birthdays were always important to him and he made them special for his children with his generosity fueled by hard work and sacrifice. He taught his children lots of valuable lessons on family matters, work ethic, respect and proper character. He loved watching soccer with his older son and enjoyed boxing and mixed martial arts with his younger son. He loved having family and friends over, spending quality time together. His house was always open to visitors, and parties and live music were always plentiful. He loved salsa music, the Beatles and Carlos Santana, and played the drums with the musicians who came to parties to jam. The legacy he leaves is manifested in his wife and children, who are now adults, and who will honor him and continue his values and customs in the future. Hugo leaves to treasure his memories; his dear wife, Carmen Alejos; sons and daughter, Clifford (Holly) Alejos, Steve Alejos and Jesica Alejos; as well as many more family and friends that will miss him deeply.
