James "Spike" Singleton

James Singleton Jr was born on October 12th, 1945 to James and Sadie Singleton in Cordele, Georgia. He fell asleep in death on December 22nd, 2018. He was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1975 and spent the remainder of his life teaching others about the Bible. He served as a congregation elder for many years. James married the love of his life, Paulette Singleton, and together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Through the years, these childhood sweethearts traveled extensively together with their many children and grandchildren. James learned how to cook at an early age from his father. He developed an extensive love for cooking and worked for various well known restaurants, such as The Desert Inn, The Villanova, and The Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World. James began working for the city of Altamonte Springs in 1976 and retired in 2010 as the Director of Leisure Services. During his employment at Altamonte, he received many honors including multiple Distinguished Service awards, an APWA Mac Ulsh Award for Outstanding Dedication and Service, and the FIPP A. Doug “Barnes” Award; however, he considered his Christian ministry to be his true vocation. His love for Jehovah was evident in the way he lived his life. James will be remembered by many for his kind heart, his limitless generosity, and his delicious cooking. No matter what kitchen he was in or the food he had to work with, he could always make something out of nothing! When you left James’s table, not only did you leave full and satisfied, but also with a new story, joke or word of wisdom. James is survived by his devoted wife, Paulette Singleton, his loving daughters: Melissa Brown (Anderson), Christina Columbus (Michael), Paulette Hacik (Peter), Elizabeth Porter (Richard), and Arianna Fusco, his caring sons: James Singleton (Mary), Christopher Singleton, Willie Singleton, Jeffrey Singleton (Nirlande), his dear mother: Sadie Singleton, his loving siblings: Larry Singleton (Gwen), and Sadie Singleton, as well as a multitude of beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Singleton, and his daughter, Sandrina Alexandre. James deeply touched the lives of many people; he will be dearly missed and never forgotten.
