James Paul Weisman

James Paul Weisman, known to everyone as Skip, born November 15th, 1939, in New York City, NY, found his name in the book on June 30th, 2024. He was born in Hells Kitchen and grew up in the Bronx. From there, he has called many places home. Skip graduated high school from Fordham Prep where he forged and maintained lifelong friendships, despite distances and time. He earned a four-year degree from Manhattan College in accounting in five years, taking all of his classes at night and working a full-time job during the day. He was a veteran of the United States Army. While stationed in Germany, he served as a telecommunications specialist, proficient in Morse code and could translate anything to dahs and dits. In addition to being a fearless entrepreneur, he was a world traveler with dual Irish and American citizenship; he held a great love for his Irish heritage and genealogy and traveled to Ireland to retrieve countless documents, meeting long lost relatives, and sharing all of these discoveries with his family. Throughout his adventurous, well-lived life, he learned Latin, spoke a little bit of German, a little bit of Gaelic, and was continuing to learn and practice his French until the end. Skip was a loyal friend who never met a stranger, meeting and talking to anyone he encountered, but especially those on a nearby barstool. In addition to his role as an ever-proud father and grandparent, there were periods of his life when he loved to cook, was an avid reader, a pilot and horseman. He was a music aficionado enjoying live music or the ever-present music that always filled his home. He loved being next to the ocean, and in his younger years, that love included snorkeling, diving, and boating. Skip is survived by his wife and companion of 26 years, Nicole, and daughters Deidre Anne (Bill), Karen Marie, and Jennifer Lynn. He is also survived by his sisters Eileen and Joan and his brother Eugene, as well as his grandchildren Edward Dean, Melissa Anne, Lindsay Marie, Ciel James, Julius Lee, Calvin Daniel and great grandson, Theodore Allen and many nieces and nephews. Skip has been reunited in death with his mother Eileen Bridget, his father John Stanton, and many close friends. Most notably among them is The Budro, who is definitely sharing a Miller Lite on ice with Skip “upstairs”. His many Great Danes and island cats’ will surely be pleased to see “Dad” again. His daughters, all affectionately addressed as “Mouse”, as well as those that loved him, will remember him always for his eternal optimism, youthful energy and generosity of spirit and soul. If Skip were here today, he would very likely insist that you live your best life in honor of those that no longer can. A memorial to life will be held in the fall for extended family.
