John G.T. Morris

It is with heavy hearts and, frankly, a lot of laughter through the tears that we say goodbye to John G. T. Morris, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and brother, and loyal friend, who passed away on November 6, 2024. For 45 years, he was the beloved husband of Cynthia Morris, his best friend and love of his life. Together they created a home filled with love, family, and more than a few eyebrow-raising dad jokes. Born in San Diego California on June 11, 1953, he was raised in North Carolina and later moved to the Orlando area in 1963. John attended Oakridge High School and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a BA in political science and later Webster University with a Master’s in procurement and acquisitions management. He entertained guests in Merlin’s Magic Shop at Walt Disney World in the early 70s. He went on to spend over 30 years with Lockheed Martin, where he found purpose, fulfillment, and probably a fair amount of free coffee. But his true joy was always his family, his faith, the Green Bay Packers, and his Ford Mustangs. John was an exceptional father to his two daughters, Melissa Tereck and Amy Morris and a proud father-in-law to Mike Tereck. He adored his grandchildren, Luke and Eleanor. God was central to his life, and his faith shined brightly in every role he played, especially as an amazing uncle, brother, cousin, and friend. His love for music was legendary. From playing his sax to jamming out to southern rock, he filled the room with both sound and spirit. John was hilarious and could make anyone laugh, often when it was least expected and definitely least appropriate. He’d want you to know that he’s probably cracking jokes in heaven with his mother, father, sister, and too many other loved ones. With a heart as big as his smile and a laugh that was contagious, John left an indelible mark on everyone who had the joy of knowing him. We imagine he’s now singing and laughing up there with the angels—and we can only hope they’ve warned the band that “one more song” means at least three encores. In his honor, raise a glass (of water, he’d say!) and smile when you see a Ford Mustang. We’ll miss you, John—rest in peace and know we’re holding onto your jokes and love forever. A service will be held 10 am Saturday December 14th at St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church 6316 Matchett Rd, Orlando, FL 32809. Fellowship and light bites to follow.
