Luis J. Garcia

A beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many, Luis J. Garcia passed into his eternal rest on October 9, 2024 in Orange City, Florida at the age of 73. Luis was born in Manhattan, New York on June 26, 1951. Growing up in the projects of New York, Luis' story is one of hardwork and dedication, never letting his circumstances dictate his future. Luis would go on to become a proud veteran of the army, receiving multiple medals for his bravery during his service in Vietnam, including the Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Purple Heart before being honorably discharged. After his service in the military, Luis attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice and graduated with his Bachelor's degree, being the first in his family to achieve such a degree. Thereafter, Luis led a long career in the Federal Government as a private investigator and eventually an immigration inspector. Luis was a dedicated husband to his cherished wife, Maria Garcia, with whom he shared the best moments with and countless memories. From the moment they met, they would share many laughs, become the best of friends and eventually fall in love because in the words of Luis, "I knew she was the one from the moment I saw her." With the love they both shared, their family became a united one that would not waver during tough times and always stick together. To Luis, his family was everything, constantly checking up on his kids no matter what age and always willing to do what is needed to ensure their happiness and success. Luis was a man of few words, but when he spoke, you could feel the love, care, and respect he had for everyone. No matter the circumstances life threw at him, he stayed resilient in his faith and always remained positive, a lesson he would instill to his children and future generations. His love for academia was also very important to him, as he always wanted to read a book about a subject he did not know or learn a new language just for fun. To Luis, there was no reason not to keep learning - no matter how old you were. He will be remembered for his genuine kindness, respectful nature, and loving heart. Truly a one-of-a-kind person, whose almost-permanent smile will be remembered by all. Luis to many, but Papa Gator/Papa Shorty to his family, will be beyond missed but will always be remembered, truly appreciated, and loved. Luis leaves to cherish the memories of his life, wife of 25 years, Maria V. Garcia; sons, Heyzer R. Alfaro, Harold P. Garcia and James P. Rodriguez; daughters, Milagros Y. Oliver and Anna Garcia; sisters, Gladys Garcia; grandchildren, Hailey Alfaro, Camilla Alfaro, Derrick Lewis Jr., Olivia Oliver and Ava; as well as extended family and friends that will miss him dearly. Luis creció en los barrios marginales de Nueva York y su historia es de trabajo duro y dedicación, sin dejar que sus circunstancias dictaran su futuro. Luis se convertiría en un orgulloso veterano del ejército y recibiría múltiples medallas por su valentía durante su servicio en Vietnam, incluidas la Estrella de Bronce, la Medalla Aérea y el Corazón Púrpura antes de ser dado de baja honorablemente. Después de su servicio militar, Luis asistió al John Jay College of Criminal Justice y se graduó con su licenciatura, siendo el primero de su familia en obtener tal título. Con el amor que ambos compartían, su familia se convirtió en una familia unida que no flaqueaba durante los tiempos difíciles y siempre se mantenía unida. Para Luis, su familia lo era todo, constantemente vigilaban a sus hijos sin importar la edad y siempre estaban dispuestos a hacer lo necesario para garantizar su felicidad y éxito. Luis era un hombre de pocas palabras, pero cuando hablaba, se podía sentir el amor, el cuidado y el respeto que tenía por todos. Sin importar las circunstancias que la vida le deparara, se mantuvo firme en su fe y siempre se mantuvo positivo, una lección que inculcaría a sus hijos y a las generaciones futuras. Su amor por la academia también fue muy importante para él, ya que siempre quería leer un libro sobre un tema que no conocía o aprender un nuevo idioma solo por diversión. Para Luis, no había razón para no seguir aprendiendo, sin importar la edad que tuvieras. Será recordado por su genuina amabilidad, naturaleza respetuosa y corazón amoroso. Una persona verdaderamente única, cuya sonrisa casi permanente será recordada por todos. Luis para muchos, pero Papa Gator/Papa Shorty para su familia, será extrañado profundamente, pero siempre será recordado, verdaderamente apreciado y amado.
