Marvin Edward Merritt

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marvin Edward Merritt, a devoted husband, father, and dedicated employee, who left this world peacefully on March 27, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on January 21, 1938, in Worth County, Georgia, Marvin was the 3rd of seven sons. He married Beulah Mae Staggs in Trilby, Florida, and together they shared an enduring bond that spanned 65 wonderful years. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Michael and Roger, who became the pride and joy of their lives. In 1957, he began his remarkable 43-year career with CSX Railroad, where he earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues for his unwavering commitment and reliability—never missing a single day of work. In addition to being a devoted husband and father, Marvin found immense joy in being a grandfather and great-grandfather and he was fondly known as “grumpy-grandpa”. He would often light up with delight as he shared tales from his youth or the early days of his family. His storytelling captivated young and old alike. Marvin’s laughter was infectious, and his ability to find joy in the little things made every gathering special. Marvin is survived by his loving wife, Beulah; his two sons, Michael (Ruth) and Roger (Tamma); his grandchildren, Christine and Danny; his great-grandchildren, Liam, Jaxon, Malakai, Nikolas; and his two brothers, John (Sue) and Eddie. He is also remembered by countless nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues whose lives he touched with his kindness and dedication. Marvin is predeceased by his brothers Jimmie, Dennis “Mickey”, Walter “Bootie”, and Freddie Merritt. A celebration of Marvin’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Park Ridge Baptist Church in Gotha.
