Peter Anthony Martin

Pete “Pop-Pop” Martin, 81, of Orlando, Florida. February 27, 1937 - October 9, 2018. Born in Brooklyn, New York to Camille and Peter Martin. Survived by his loving two daughters, Denise Akos and Cindy Basen and their husbands, Billy Akos and Rich Basen. Has 10 beloved grandchildren. Brandie, Christie, Ryan, Billy, Bobby, Ricky, Lauren, Samantha, Sarah and Emily. One great-grandson. Luke. One brother, John Martin, and one sister, Eleanor Blasi. In-laws Marie and Richard Tartaglia. He was a part of the 1954 graduating class at Richmond Hill High School in Queens, New York. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served our country as a Seaman on the USS Ticonderoga from 1954 – 1958. His first assignment Bootcamp Training was in Bainbridge, Maryland on November 10, 1954. During his service, he traveled three-quarters around the world, stationed in places like France, Hawaii, Japan, Panama, and Morocco. Pete met Joanie at his cousins Sweet 16 birthday party. While in the Navy he told Joanie, he would write to her. She wrote him back and laced her letters with her favorite perfume, so he would always remember her scent. A few years later, they married, had two daughters and eventually moved from East Rockaway, New York, to Long Island, New York. After 5 years, they decided to pack up the family and move to sunny, Florida, to begin a new chapter in their lives. Pete worked for Marriott In-flight Catering where he always enjoyed benefiting from the extravagant lunches they provided all employees- not to mention all the great people he worked with along the way. Pete always enjoyed bowling, woodworking, going to the beach with his family, playing the lottery, and his latest hobby- creating puzzles. He supported his daughters and grandchildren in whatever they were involved in. Pete was their #1 fan and very proud of all their accomplishments in school and extracurricular activities. We will all miss Pete’s laughter, and fun family moments. Viewing will be held at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, in Orlando, on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 9:00 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM.
