Stuart Romaine Johnson

Stuart R. Johnson, age 79, of Winter Garden, FL. passed away on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Cornerstone Hospice in ORMC Orlando, FL. Stuart was born on July 16, 1939 to Claude and Rose Johnson in Sayre, PA and grew up in Corfu, NY. When he married his wife Ann, they moved to Byron, NY and lived there for 56 years. In 2016 they made Winter Garden, FL their home as they enjoy the warm sunshine and beautiful blue skies. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ann Johnson of Winter Garden, FL; daughter Susan (Kenneth) Gank of Orlando, FL, son, Steven Johnson of Bergen, NY; grandchildren Gage Gank U.S. Air Force in Dover Delaware, Keefer Gank and Garrett Gank of Orlando, FL; brothers, Clarence Johnson of Batavia, NY, Duane (Darlene) Johnson of Corfu, Charles Johnson of Modesto, CA, sisters; Doris (Allen) Davis of Penn Yan, NY, Janet (Robert) Cosway of Rochester, NY, Rita Ruger of Buffalo, NY, Anita VanAmeron of Albion, NY, Ruth (Paul) Carroll of Sonoma, CA and several wonderful nieces and nephews. Stuart was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Cyril Johnson, LaVern (Gwen) Johnson, Russell (Donna) Johnson, brother-in-law’s Gary VanAmeron, Michael Heywood, Kenneth Heywood, sister-in-law’s; Betty (Shattuck) Johnson, Marlene Dawson. Stuart served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was an active member of the Byron Fire Department and Rescue Squad and is a life member with over 50 years of service. He served as Chaplin of the Fire Department and was honored with Fireman of the Year award in 1980. Stuart was one of the people instrumental in the startup of the Byron Rescue Squad. He served as Byron Town Constable several years. He was also served on the Byron Community Park committee. He was also a member of the Bergen Presbyterian Church, loved being outdoors caring for his ducks, geese and peacocks, and he was also an incredible wood worker who loved creating beautiful things from wood. There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, December 26th at 7:00pm at Purpose Church Orlando, 13640 W. Colonial Dr., #110, Winter Garden, FL 34787. There will be service held in New York at a later date. A Community Funeral Home (www.acommunityfuneralhome.com) is assisting the family with arrangements.
