Rose Scherrer
February 5, 1943 - February 20, 2021
Rose Scherrer, 78, of Delray Beach, FL, and Yonkers, NY, passed away on February 20, 2021. She was born in NYC on February 5, 1943 and was raised by her loving parents, the late John and Margaret Janniello, of Mount Vernon, NY. Rose is survived by her adoring husband of 59 years, Julian, her children Steven (Marla), Susan (Robert) and Julie (Sean), her grandchildren Alissa (Chad), Christine (Tobi) and Hope, her great-grandchildren Liam and Brianna, her sisters-in-law Jackie and Eileen and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by several brothers and sisters and their spouses. She loved her husband and family fiercely and they adored her in return. Rose and Julian met at the beach and were avid boaters, enjoying more than 25 years on the Long Island Sound and over 20 years on the Hudson River. She was an active member of the Tarrytown Boat Club Ladies Auxiliary, and volunteered, alongside her dear friends, at many boat club functions. Rose was always quick to lend a helping hand and brought her positive energy wherever she went. Rose loved to dance. She took ballroom dance lessons for many years and participated in several showcases. She once won first place in a rumba dance competition. She also took belly dancing lessons and enjoyed performing at venues such as nursing homes with her dance troupe. Rose did not dance to attract attention to herself, she danced because that is what she loved to do. Rose also loved live entertainment and was a devoted fan of her favorite visual arts performer (Agatha) and her favorite band (Streets of the Bronx), whom she went to see more times than can be counted. Many will remember the way she was brought up on stage during the performance of “her” songs. Rose was a homemaker but also worked in various domestic capacities for several families in Scarsdale, NY. She loved to play games with the children in her care, many of whom loved her happy-go-lucky disposition. Rose was the director of her condo association in Delray Beach for many years. She took pride in liaising with the administrators, contractors and residents to ensure that rules were followed and grievances were timely addressed. She also enjoyed hosting her neighbors and friends during her annual holiday party. Rose was a truly special person, who made others feel special and loved. She lit up a room and spiced up a party. Throughout her life, she opened her home and her heart to family and friends in need and made them feel welcomed and secure. She was generous and compassionate and lived life to the fullest. She will be missed by so many. Due to the current pandemic, a Celebration of Life for Rose will be announced at a later date.
