Adleigh Grace Basak

Adleigh Grace Basak, born November 24, 2007, entered eternal peace on January 2, 2026. She was 18 years old. Adleigh was a daughter, sister, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, cousin, friend, and light—deeply loved and cherished beyond words. Those who knew her describe her as bubbly, joyful, kind, funny, and full of energy. She had a way of drawing people in, making them feel seen, heard, and valued. Her smile was infectious, her laugh unforgettable, and her presence left an imprint that will never fade. Adleigh loved Jesus and lived out her faith in powerful ways—through kindness, service, and genuine care for others. Over the years, she was actively involved in church, mission trips, Vacation Bible School, and youth activities, where she naturally led with both heart and humor. She loved deep discussions and worship, and she especially enjoyed helping lead younger children, bringing her signature sass and take-charge spirit. Many remember her singing loudly and joyfully in church, laughing until she could hardly breathe, and showing up with a servant’s heart wherever she was needed. She wanted life. Adleigh dreamed of finishing high school, going to college, and pursuing psychology—leaning toward research—to help people like her. She longed to experience the milestones of a typical teenage life. She valued friendships deeply and was known for truly listening—offering thoughtful words, encouragement, and honesty. Friends remember beach days, school memories, shared worship, endless laughter, and her ability to bring others closer to God simply by being herself. Adleigh also carried profound pain. As a child, she survived sexual assault—an experience that forever altered her inner world. Though she fought bravely through years of counseling and treatment, that trauma later manifested in a severe eating disorder. Over the past three and a half years, Adleigh endured repeated hospitalizations, residential treatment programs, partial hospitalization programs, and outpatient care. She was surrounded by professionals and loved fiercely by her family, who prayed, advocated, fought, and never stopped believing in her. Eating disorders are among the deadliest mental illnesses. Preliminary findings indicate that Adleigh’s heart could no longer withstand the physical toll caused by years of this illness. Her passing was sudden, and her family finds comfort in believing she did not suffer. Adleigh was more than her eating disorder. She was more than her struggles. She was a beautiful, vibrant soul who loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Her story is shared not for shock, but in the hope that awareness, early intervention, compassion, and relentless advocacy may spare another family this pain. Adleigh was preceded in death by her grandmother, Tammy Buda. She is survived by her devoted daddy and mama, Daniel and Brittaney Basak; her best friend and sister, Camlin “Cami” Basak; grandparents Dan and Charlotte Basak and Joe Buda; aunts Rebecca Basak and Krista Buda; great-grandmother Lois Carlton; numerous great-aunts and uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of family, friends, church family, and community members who will carry her memory forward. The family is profoundly grateful for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support they have received. A memorial service to honor Adleigh’s life will be held on January 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Generations Church, 1001 Hoffner Ave, Orlando, FL 32809. The family encourages donations or acts of service in Adleigh’s memory that support eating disorder awareness, mental health advocacy, or care for children and teens in crisis. Organizations close to the family’s heart include The Healing Tree and the National Eating Disorders Association. Acts of kindness, service, and advocacy in her name are also deeply meaningful to the family. Colonial Florists has graciously volunteered to coordinate the flower arrangements for the service.
