Eugenio De Jesus Torres

Eugenio D. Torres, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, entered into eternal rest surrounded by his devoted wife, children, and grandchildren on October 22, 2025, at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. He was 72 years old. Born in the Dominican Republic, Eugenio came to the United States by way of the Bronx, New York, before settling in Orlando, Florida, where he built a life rooted in faith, service, and love for his family and community. A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Eugenio embodied honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. He made history as the first Hispanic recipient of the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship, earning his bachelor’s degree and later pursuing a master’s degree in social work, which he was just shy of completing. His passion for learning and helping others reflected his belief that every person can grow, overcome, and give back. Eugenio’s life was defined by faith, integrity, and devotion. He was a man of deep prayer and quiet strength who lived what he believed—loving God and his family wholeheartedly. A dedicated husband, he cared for his wife Judy with unwavering tenderness and meticulous attention, especially in later years. Their marriage of over fifty years was a true example of enduring love, loyalty, and partnership. He faced life’s challenges with remarkable courage and grace, overcoming cancer twice with steadfast faith and resilience. Even in his final battle, he met each day with gratitude, humor, and hope. His lighthearted spirit and quick wit—traits his sons proudly inherited—brought laughter and comfort to those around him, even in difficult times. A lifelong learner and explorer, Eugenio believed in continually reinventing himself. He even studied to fly helicopters, driven by a genuine curiosity and zest for life. To his family, he was a father, friend, confidant, cheerleader, and storyteller—always encouraging those he loved to dream bigger, work harder, and live fully. As a social worker, Eugenio served with the Department of Children and Family Services in the reunification department, where his compassion, empathy, and deep sense of justice guided every decision he made. He often spoke with great care and reverence about his work—sharing lessons and reflections that captured the heart of those experiences without ever disclosing details. He told those stories as if every child and family he helped was part of his own, because in many ways, they were. That was who he was—someone who loved, protected, and believed in people until they could believe in themselves. To many, Eugenio was more than a social worker; he was a counselor, mentor, and father figure. His authenticity, wisdom, and humility made others feel seen and valued. He was fiercely loyal to his family and commitments—a quality passed on to his children, who now carry his sense of duty, protection, and love within them. Eugenio was preceded in death by his parents, Heorina Torres and Efrain Maria Torres; his brothers Alcides Torres and Alberto Ruben Torres; his sisters Falconery Altagracia Torres and Felicia Maritza Torres-Dox; his niece Joyce Torres; and his grandson Amari Torres. We rejoice in the promise that he is now reunited with those who went before him, embraced by God’s everlasting love. What was once farewell has become a beautiful reunion in glory, where peace and joy never end. He is survived by his devoted wife of over fifty years, Judy Torres; his children, Jessica Torres, Eugenio D. Torres II, Efrain J. Torres (Maribel), and Felicia Torres (Sarai); his grandchildren, Efrain K. Torres, Gabriel Eugenio Torres, Naveah M. McLennan, and Julia M. Torres; and his sisters Noemi Contreras (Pete), Olivia Torres, Gison Torres, Niz Torres, Wandes Torres, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. A Mass in his honor will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at St. James Catholic Cathedral, arrival recommended at 1:00pm, programming begins at 1:30 and Mass begins promptly at 1:45. 215 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, Florida 32801 followed by a Military Honors Burial on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery. A repast will follow to continue the celebration of his life and legacy.
