Jack Hunt

Jack Hunt, born John Thomas Hunt, was born in Waltham, Massachusetts on March 18, 1934. In 1954, he met his loving wife of 62 years, Doris. They met at the wedding of Jack’s sister to Doris’s cousin, and Doris knew at that time that Jack was the man she would marry. Jack was drafted into the Army on December 11, 1956 and spent two years at his base. He was not sent overseas, so luckily Doris was able to travel many weekends to visit him while he was away. Jack also completed his 2 year accounting degree from Bentley College. They married on May 10, 1958. Their strong love brought them four children: Brian, Terry, Christine and Kelly. The family of six lived in Massachusetts from 1959-1978, where he had a successful real estate career. During this time, he enjoyed spending time teaching his children to snow ski and soaking up sun at the beach in Cape Cod. In 1978, the family moved to Orlando, Florida, where Jack purchased a business on Lake Conway. He ran this business with the partnership of his wife, and later, his son, Brian, for more 30 years. While Jack may have left Massachusetts for the Sunshine State many years ago, his love of all Boston sports team ran deep and true! Jack’s unwavering love for the Patriots, Red Sox, Bruins and Celtics meant that even through tough times with his health, he rarely missed watching a game. He was a devoted fan—even driving an old Ford truck decked out with Patriots upholstery for a short time! Doris and Jack have always been strong in their faith, and were able to direct the Living Stations Ministry for 30 years. Alongside their members, which included their kids and grandkids over the years, they brought the Living Stations to churches throughout the Central Florida area. They were even invited by the Bishop to present the Living Stations at Lake Eola. Throughout his life, Jack was a devoted family man, and loved any chance he got to spend time with his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids. You could always count on Jack to bring up the rear of the line of ATV 4-wheelers during weekend adventures to Ocala National Forest with the family. Lots of time was spent attending grandkid’s sporting events, on annual fall family vacations and on outings to places like the Florida Strawberry Festival. He and Doris loved traveling to Amish Country, Pennsylvania, the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and North Carolina, and the Florida beaches. Many summers were spent at New Smyrna Beach, until they purchased a condo of their own at Cocoa Beach. Then, they were able to spend even more time in the surf and sun! Jack loved walking the beach and collecting shells, or just relaxing with his latest book under the umbrella. In recent years, Jack found simple pleasure in spending time in the fresh air on his back deck where he could watch the birds at the bird feeder. He especially loved the bright red cardinals that would come almost daily. Anyone with any memory of time spent with Jack will agree that he loved to whistle. Whether it was something familiar, a tune he had made up, or mimicking the call of the birds nearby, his whistle often rang out strong and clear! The world is a little quieter now, without his whistle breaking the silence. Jack leaves behind his loving wife Doris, children; Brian Hunt, Terry Dragon, Kelly Hunt, and Christine Hunt, grandchildren; Chelsea Howland, Julian Howland, Kaylee Manigat, Jack Davis, Luke Davis and Eli Cheezum, and great grandchildren Jayden and Khloe Manigat. Jack was a loving sibling to June Hunt Luck, Marie Hunt Pellerin, Charlie Hunt and Jimmy Hunt. He is preceded in death by his parents John and Vera Hunt and sister June Hunt Luck.
