Keith Lloyd Howard

Keith Lloyd Howard, OD, age 86, of Orlando, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at Orlando Health Dr. Phillips Hospital. Keith was born on February 27, 1940, in Buffalo, New York, to Robert B. Howard Sr. and Annie (Harrison) Howard. He was raised in Buffalo and graduated from Bennett High School in 1958. Keith initially pursued a career in education, attending Buffalo State College. However, he soon discovered his true passion was healthcare. He continued his education at Erie County Technical Institute, where he studied Ophthalmic Dispensing, and later attended the Illinois College of Optometry, earning his Doctor of Optometry degree on academic scholarship. He was honored with the Medal of Honor as an outstanding graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry. Throughout his distinguished career, Keith was deeply committed to the profession of optometry and to serving others. He served for 10 years on the New York State Board of Optometry and was also an At-Large member of the New York State Office of Professional Discipline. He was a longtime member of the National Optometric Association, where he held numerous leadership positions, including President and Corresponding Secretary, and served as Editor of the organization’s newsletter. Among his many professional honors, Keith was the recipient of the National Optometric Association’s Founder’s Award. Keith was also a gifted entrepreneur. He was the founder and one of the owners, in partnership, of multiple optometric offices throughout Western New York and Erie, Pennsylvania. His professional life reflected his dedication to healthcare, and his entrepreneurial spirit. His faith was an important part of his life. Keith was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Buffalo, NY. Keith will be remembered not only for his accomplishments and dedication to optometry, but also for the friendships he formed throughout his life. He cherished the many relationships he built with family and members of his community. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and a man with a lot of love to give. As much as he cherished others, he was cherished himself by everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him. Keith was predeceased by his parents, Robert B. Howard Sr. and Annie (Harrision) Howard, and his brother, Robert B. Howard Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia A. Howard; daughter, Jennifer D. Howard; Son, Kristopher L. Howard; Son-in-law Trevor Gordon; Daughter-in-law, Belisa (Cruz) Howard; and his three cherished granddaughters, Chloe Gordon, Mia Howard, and Layla Howard. He is also survived by lifelong friends in Buffalo, New York, as well as numerous other relatives and loved ones. Keith leaves behind a legacy of dedication to his profession, service to his community, entrepreneurial achievement, and, most importantly, love for his family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
